MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

************************* A Michigan man was fined $1,000 for hunting big game with a weapon other than firearm.

Paul Hinderliter, 44, of Chesterfield, Michigan was found guilty under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act for hunting with a spear.

The spear was permanently forfeited to the Crown.

The court heard that on August 13, 2008, a Sault Ste. Marie district conservation officer, working with the Canada Border Services Agency, conducted an inspection of Hinderliter’s vehicle.

He found a spear head with dried blood on it which Hinderliter admitted to using in Ontario in 2007 to hunt and kill a black bear near Dubreuilville.

The case was heard before Justice of the Peace Phillip Stanghetta, Wawa, on February 19, 2009.

To report a natural resource violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your ministry office during regular business hours.

You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
