OPP NEWS RELEASE

*************************** (Batchewana First Nation, Ontario) - Earlier this afternoon the Batchewana First Nation Police took an American man, wanted by a Florida law enforcement agency, into custody.

An unrelated, routine, investigation by members of the Sault Ste. Marie OPP crime unit resulted in detectives discovering the identity of the suspect earlier today.

A background check on the man indicated that he is wanted for several sex related charges originating from Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office in the State of Florida.

All police and border agencies in and around the Sault Ste. Marie area were immediately notified and a description of the man's vehicle was broadcast to all officers on patrol.

At about 3 p.m. this afternoon officers with the Batchewana First Nation Police located the man in his vehicle on August Street on the Batchewana First Nation.

Sixty-nine-year-old Vincent Jay was taken into custody without incident.

Mr. Jay is wanted by the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s office for the following charges: sexual assault, sexual battery of a victim under twelve years of age, and lewd and lascivious behaviour of a victim between twelve and sixteen years of age.
