**************************** New vice-president at Algoma University

SAULT STE. MARIE (October 20) - Algoma University is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Sean Dwyer, vice-president of finance and administration.

Dwyer began work on October 4, 2010.

In his new role, Dwyer will be responsible for providing both strategic and hands-on leadership to the university by implementing the institutional plan in budgeting and accounting, funding, external grants, physical plant, ancillary operations, information technology, and human resources.

In addition, he will play a key role in planning all programs and services, identifying resources, overseeing non-credit revenue-generating initiatives, and ensure a diversity of revenue sources for the University.

A native of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Dwyer comes to Algoma University from Calgary where he spent the majority of his career in the energy industry.

Prior to that Dwyer worked in capital management within the banking sector after spending several years as a high school mathematics teacher.

Dwyer has family roots in Sault Ste. Marie through his wife, who was born and raised here.

His family has vacationed here consistently for the past 10 years, and was looking for an opportunity to make this their permanent home.

"It is a tremendous opportunity to join the team at Algoma University. There will be many exciting challenges ahead and I look forward to facing them with such a welcoming and committed group of people. They will truly be a pleasure to work with. My wife and I love the community and couldn't be happier to relocate our family here.

""We are excited to welcome Sean to Algoma University," says Dr. Richard Myers, president of Algoma University. "Our search for a suitable candidate for this position has culminated in the selection of someone that brings us a wealth of financial experience, a background in education, and roots in the community. We believe he will be an asset to our Executive team during this exciting period of growth for our institution."
