On June 12 Ontarians will head to the polls to elect a new provincial government.
Both the Liberal and the Progressive Conservative party are planning to make cuts to education.
Celia Ross and the NDP are committed to preserving the integrity of public education.
These cuts will come at a time when Ontario needs to maintain a public education system that attracts highly trained professionals working in a system that prepares young people for the 21st century.
Currently, Ontario has an education system that is the envy of the world.
Without a well-funded education system, young families in Ontario will suffer by not having equal access to a high quality education.
In the end, the vulnerable will suffer and more people will enter a cycle of poverty.
Recently, the Hudak Conservatives announced that they would increase class sizes and lay off educational assistants. The Liberals have committed to cut the Grants for Student Needs. These political policies are threatening to erase the improvements in education made since the Harris era. The NDP party is the only political party that is firmly committed to providing a high quality public education system that benefits all Ontarians.
The Ontario Secondary School Teacher's Federation is supporting Celia Ross of the NDP for the Sault Ste. Marie riding and Michael Mantha for the Algoma - Manitoulin riding.
