For those wondering about the strange sights and sounds in Sault Ste. Marie's west end around midnight last night, Algoma Steel is attributing the incident to a 'reaction' on its property brought about by the cold weather.

"Last night during the normal process of recycling surplus molten iron, the cold weather and icy conditions combined for a noisy steam reaction," said Brenda Stenta, branding and communications manager for Algoma Steel Inc. "No one was injured. We apologize for the unexpected noise."
