Algoma Public Health reporting two low-risk COVID exposures in Sault Ste. Marie, 34 new cases in Algoma

Algoma Public Health is reporting a pair of low-risk COVID-19 exposures in Sault Ste. Marie.

The first exposure was at O'Sullivan Funeral Home on Dec. 9 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. as well as Dec. 10 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The second was at Galaxy Cinemas in the Station Mall on Dec. 7 between 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Clifford the Big Red Dog screening.

Anyone who was at either location is advised to self-monitor for 10 days from potential exposure for COVID symptoms. If symptoms develop, the individual should seek testing and self-isolate.

APH is also reporting 34 new COVID cases in the region, 31 of which are in the Sault Ste. Marie area while the other three are in central and east Algoma.

There are currently 268 active cases and five hospitalizations in the region.

Among the new cases, 17 are currently under investigation to determine the exposure while 15 were infected through close contact with a confirmed case and two others are of unknown infection at this time.

Unknown exposure means the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a known confirmed case.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,473 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region.
