Algoma board has a new superintendent

The Algoma District School Board (ADSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Frank Palumbo to the position of Superintendent of Human Resources, effective June 1, 2018.  

As a member of the senior administrative team, Frank will provide leadership in all aspects of the human resources department, such as labour relations, recruitment and selection, leadership development, school staffing, payroll/pension/benefits administration, health and wellness, attendance support, occupational health & safety, human resources information systems and organizational design and development. Currently, Mr. Palumbo works as a system administrator with the Algoma District School Board supporting a variety of human resource duties.  

Frank Palumbo’s career in education has spanned over 27 years with the ADSB. Mr. Palumbo served as principal in four schools over 14 years before accepting the position of System Administrator of Human Resources and Board Leadership Development in January 2017. 

Some of his system leadership initiative highlights have included the development and implementation of the board’s first mentoring program, coordinating various board leadership development initiatives, facilitating the New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP), implementing and conducting school effectiveness visits and he was the principal representative during local teacher negotiations. 

Frank has been a long time executive member of the local Algoma District Principals’ Association and provincially, has been actively involved with the Ontario Principals’ Council (OPC) where he was elected vice-president for the 2018-2019 academic year earlier this month.

Frank has been a principal representative during provincial teacher negotiations and has served on various Ministry of Education provincial working groups. Frank has been involved in various community organizations, most recently as a member of the Sault College CYW Advisory Committee.

Of his new appointment, Frank said, “I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to continue my professional growth and development in the role of Superintendent with the Algoma District School Board. My career has been shaped and enhanced by countless colleagues, school staff, students and their families and by my own family and friends. I am deeply grateful to all of the individuals who have had such a positive impact on me and on my career and I wish to extend my sincerest thanks to them. I am eager to begin this next phase in my career and I graciously look forward to serving the stakeholders throughout the Algoma District School Board.”

Director of Education, Lucia Reece noted, “Frank will be an excellent addition to our senior administrative team. His experience, both locally and provincially, will serve our human resources department well. Frank’s leadership skills, character and interpersonal skills are exemplary, and these skills, combined with his strong work ethic, will help further our work toward the realization of our board’s mission, vision and values."
