Former U.S. Secretary of State Alexander Haig, who made an unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 1988, is critically ill in Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Haig, was an advisor to President Richard Nixon during Watergate and a former NATO supreme allied commander.
His illness was not immediately known.
