Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach has been declared the winner of the Alberta election, leading the Progressive Conservatives to their 11th consecutive victory in the province. As of 11:59 p.m.

Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach has been declared the winner of the Alberta election, leading the Progressive Conservatives to their 11th consecutive victory in the province.

As of 11:59 p.m. Eastern, the PCs have won 65 ridings and are leading in another seven ridings.

This is well over the 42 seats needed to form a majority government in Alberta's 83-seat legislature.

Alberta's Liberal party has won eight seats and is leading in one riding.

Four of the Liberal wins are in the northwestern part of Calgary.

The NDP has been declared the winner in two ridings, both of which are in Edmonton.

As of this writing, Wildrose Alliance Party Leader Paul Hinman is leading by under 100 votes in Cardston-Taber-Warner.

Independent Candidate Craig Chandler put up a strong challenge in Calgary-Egmont, and at one point during the evening was leading PC Candidate Jonathan Denis.
