Passenger levels in September at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport dropped 6 per cent from the same time a year ago, marking the second such decrease year-over-year in the past three months.

Compared to September 2019 levels, passenger levels are down 22 per cent.

Though year-to-date (April to September) levels are up by 7.5 per cent compared to a year ago overall, passenger levels remain down 24 per cent from pre-pandemic levels.

Passenger totals in September were 13,173, down from a 2023-high figure of 16,425 in August.

A total of 121,288 passengers have travelled through the Sault Airport in 2023 since Jan. 1.

Sunwing's recent decision pull out of the Sault Airport is sure to negatively impact the numbers even more.
