Aggravated assault under investigation

At approximately 8:51 last night, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service received a call regarding a male that had been assaulted in the 300 block of Albert Street East. 

Officers investigating the incident learned that there was a gathering at a residence in the 300 block of Albert Street East and when one of the males left the residence he was involved in an altercation with some persons in the entrance way of the building. 

The male was then allegedly assaulted by four to six persons on the sidewalk area just outside the home. 

The 24 year-old male victim was transported to Sault Area Hospital with serious injuries that do not appear to be life threatening at this time. 

The suspects all fled the area when police were called.  An investigation commenced. 

One of the persons allegedly involved, 18 year-old Tara Lynn Swanson, of #2-54 Cathcart Street was arrested overnight with regards to this incident and was charged with one count of aggravated assault.   

Further, she was found to be breaching her recognizance order by not complying with her curfew conditions and for being in the company of another female that she was not to associate with. 

She was also charged with two counts of breach of a recognizance order.  She is to appear in bail court this morning.  

Police have identified another male youth involved in the incident and are attempting to locate him at this time.  The investigation is ongoing and police are seeking the identity of the other suspects involved in the incident. 

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is seeking the public’s assistance in their investigation.
