The Art Gallery of Algoma will be hosting its first fundraising event in almost three years on Friday, Aug. 12.

The AGA will also be involved in three days of events in partnership with the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site and Entomica.

The Aug. 12 fundraiser dinner at the AGA begins at 6 p.m.

There will be a painting class with artist and art teacher Katie Huckson following the dinner.

All supplies will be provided.

Participants will paint centrepieces of bees, blueberries, butterflies and flowers. Parts of the centrepieces were created by children in AGA art classes.

“Art has always been an inspiration and refuge to many people, especially during times of stress and isolation that many of us experienced during the pandemic. It is always a very powerful way to heal from many physical and emotional issues,” wrote AGA executive director Jasmina Jovanovic in a release.

There will also be a screening of Man vs. Bee featuring Rowan Atkinson - best known as Mr. Bean.

Dinner will be catered by Mary Greenwood of Feeding Your Soul Café. There are vegetarian and gluten-free options if requested in advance.

There will be a cash bar offering wines and honey-flavoured beer from OutSpoken Brewing, as well as non-alcoholic beer from Partake Brewing and various soft drinks.

There will also be a family fun event - called "Let’s Bee Hive" - held on the AGA lawn from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, including arts and crafts and other activities held in partnership with Entomica.

The proceeds from both events - Friday dinner and Saturday Fun Day in the Park - will support future AGA exhibitions and educational programming.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the AGA at 705-949-9067 ext. 106, at the Gallery or online.

Ticket prices are $75 for AGA Members and $90 for the general public. Guests will receive a donation receipt of $25 for tax purposes.

The two events are part of a three-day festival in partnership with Entomica and the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site, with an emphasis on bees, blueberries and summer.

Entomica will be at OutSpoken Brewing during the Downtown Association’s Thursday, Aug. 11 Street Party from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Queen Street East between Spring and Dennis Streets.

Blueberry Socials will be held at the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 and Friday, Aug. 12, along with a Blueberry Breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 13.

For tickets to the blueberry events, call 705-759-5443.

A "Miss Bee Hive" event will be held Saturday, Aug. 13, at the Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site - outdoors or indoors, depending on the weather - at 7 p.m. with live music from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Food, Hesmos Beer, and blueberry beverages will be available.

There is a cover charge for that event.

Tickets are available through Ermatinger Clergue National Historic Site or Entomica.
