Algoma District School Board has announced plans to increase technology for grades 6-10.

In a press release issued last night, ADSB said it has invested in over 3,000 additional winbooks for students in order to achieve a 1:1 allocation for grades 6-10 in all schools across the district.

The board also said it will increase allocations for other grades, allowing an approximate 2:1 device ratio for grades 4-5 and 11-12.

ADSB noted younger students in Junior Kindergarten to grade 3 have access to i-Pads and other tactile-based technology.

In the past year, amid unprecedented changes during the pandemic, we experienced an immediate acceleration of advances in technology, which allowed us to pivot to an online delivery of education to our students as needed.

In a further effort to support online learning and the greater need for technology, ADSB has announced plans to upgrade internet bandwidth at all schools and offices throughout the district. According to last night's news release, schools will experience improvements of approximately five times the current bandwidth.

Additional upgrades include new document cameras and sound systems, which the board says will support teachers and students to bridge the school and home learning experiences.
