Active cases, hospitalizations drop in Monday update: APH

The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 dropped by 10 in the latest report from Algoma Public Health. *Note: Monday's update includes numbers from Saturday and Sunday. 

There are currently 17 patients with COVID in Algoma area hospitals. The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons also dropped from five to four in Monday's update.

The number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons dropped from one to zero while the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 is down by two today to two.

APH is also reporting a drop in active cases in today's update. The number of active cases is 162, which is down by 22 from Friday.

Today's report includes 50 new confirmed cases in the region, bringing the total number of cases to 6,151 since the beginning of 2022 and 8,355 since the start of the pandemic.

The health unit is reporting 72 newly-resolved cases in the region - for a total of 8,193 since the start of the pandemic. 

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
