Active cases drop, hospitalizations climb in Tuesday update: APH

The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19 increased by four in the latest report from Algoma Public Health. 

There are currently 21 patients with COVID in Algoma area hospitals. The number of patients admitted for COVID-related reasons has dropped from four to two in Tuesday's update.

The number of ICU patients admitted for COVID-related reasons rose from zero to one and the number of ICU patients with confirmed COVID-19 has increased by one today to three.

APH is also reporting a drop in active cases in today's update. The number of active cases is 157, which is down by five from Monday.

Today's report includes 13 new confirmed cases in the region, bringing the total number of cases to 6,164 since the beginning of 2022 and 8,368 since the start of the pandemic.

The health unit is reporting 18 newly-resolved cases in the region - for a total of 8,211 since the start of the pandemic. 

Note: As of Dec. 31, 2021, the province has limited COVID-19 PCR testing to the highest risk populations. Furthermore, some people with mild or asymptomatic infection may not seek testing. Algoma Public Health states that the numbers of confirmed cases are an underestimate of the actual number of people with COVID-19 in the Algoma region.
