Two little girls from Lethbridge, Alberta are in the cusrody of child-care workers today after their mother was arrested shortly after 5 a.m. this morning in Sault Ste. Marie.
The children, aged five and three, were located by City police at 5:16 a.m. in an east-end residence.
The mother is in Sault bail court today and arrangements are being made for her return to Lethbridge to face two charges of parental abduction of children contrary to Section 283(1) of the Criminal Code.
The official report from City Police indicates that the woman is 40, but another source advises SooToday.com that she's 33.
The two girls were allegedly taken from their family home in Lethbridge's north side on Saturday.
The woman’s husband, father of the girls, went to work early that morning.
When he returned in the evening, the man discoverewd that both his wife and the children were gone, together with some furniture and all personal papers belonging to the children.
The man didn't file a complaint with police until yesterday, when he still hadn't heard from his wife.
A Canada-wide warrant was issued for the mother and a police investigation traced her to the house in the Sault.
Police say the children are okay and staying with family friends.
Arrangements are being made to return the girls to Alberta to reunite them with their father.
Police are not releasing the name of the woman, to protect the identities of the children and their father.
