A very proud Kaylin Da Costa had a big congratulatory hug this afternoon for mom Lisa, one of 152 students who graduated Saturday at Algoma University College.

"It's a west-end day. Two Italian boys make good," quipped Mississauga, Ontario novelist Frank Paci, referring to the special recognition paid to himself and Honorable Justice James D. Greco of Sault Ste. Marie.

Paci received an honourary doctor of letters degree, presented by Laurentian University president Judith Woodsworth.

Judge Greco got the Algoma University Senate’s Honourary Member of Algoma University College Award.

Paci, a former Sault Ste. Marie school teacher now considered the most significant Italian-Canadian novelist writing in English, has graciously granted SooToday.com permission to publish the full text of his convocation address, entitled "Writing as Prayer."

We're also planning to post the full text of Academic Dean Arthur Perlini's extraordinary tribute to Judge Greco.

Of course, SooToday.com also has photographs coming out the wazoo of Convocation 2003, and will be posting them as time permits over the next couple of days.

Come back often to view the latest updates.
