The appropriately named John Tory, candidate for the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario, will be trying to drum up support here next week.

Tory will be at the Best Western on Great Northern Road at 8 p.m. next Monday (August 16).

A former president and chief executive officer of Rogers Cable Inc., Tory has a long history of service to conservative causes.

He was principal secretary to Premier William Davis (1985), tour director on Brian Mulroney's federal election campaign (1988), and campaign manager of Kim Campbell's election bid (1993), widely considered one of the worst campaigns ever executed in Canadian political history.

Late last year, Tory placed a close second to David Miller in Toronto's mayoral election.

He's currently running to replace Ernie Eves as leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.
