************************* Shoplifting-related arrests

City Police were dispatched to Sears at the Station Mall yesterday at 12:06 p.m. regarding two males that had [allegedly] left the store with stolen power tools.

The two males fled on bicycles towards the downtown area.

Police attended in the area and one of the males, 38-year-old Scott Erdman of 168 Andrew Street was observed by police on Queen Street East near Tancred Street.

When police approached him, he attempted to flee.

He was quickly apprehended and struggled with officers to get away.

At the time of his arrest, he was allegedly found in possession of a stolen pair of Reebok running shoes from Sears and a Tec codeine tablet.

He was also on probation at the time to keep the peace and be good and to stay away from Sears.

As a result, he was charged with one count of theft under $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of resisting a peace officer, one count of possession of a controlled drug or substance and two counts of breach of probation.

The second male, 19-year-old Eric Beer of 177 Andrew Street, was located on Central Park Avenue and when police were attempting to apprehend him, he [allegedly] pushed his bicycle into one of the officers and fled on foot.

He was quickly apprehended after running into a residence and attempting to hide.

He [allegedly] falsely identified himself to officers at the time of his arrest and was also [allegedly] found in possession a Dewalt reciprocating saw that he had stolen from Sears.

Officers also discovered that this accused was wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft from Canadian Tire from the 4th of June and for falsely identifying himself to police at that time.

He has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of obstructing a peace officer, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of being unlawfully in a dwelling house and one count of assaulting a peace officer.

He is to attend in bail court this morning.
