OPP NEWS RELEASE
************************* Winter conditions contribute to multiple collisions
Mother Nature dumped a substantial amount of wet snow on the area on Thursday and drivers failed to adjust their driving habits, again!
East Algoma OPP responded to several motor vehicle collisions around the lunch hour on Thursday and fortunately they were single motor vehicle incidents [not exactly as illustrated].
One collision on Highway 17 at Serpent River First Nation Territory saw a pickup truck launch itself off the guide rail and down an embankment, coming to rest 25 metres from the roadway.
The vehicle had rolled and tumbled and the Serpent River First Nation Fire Rescue had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate a passenger from the truck.
Seat belt use in this case definitely saved lives.
Police are reminding motorists to slow down in poor weather conditions and use all the lighting on your vehicle in reduced visibility situations.
