9:53 a.m. update on downed plane - reader photo

Initial reports from Garden River suggest that the downed plane there this morning was a forced landing, not a crash. And there appear to have been no injuries.

Initial reports from Garden River suggest that the downed plane there this morning was a forced landing, not a crash.

And there appear to have been no injuries.

"I was on my way home from a night shift and saw the plane on the side of the road," reports SooToday.com reader Mark Schaafsma, who sent us this photograph from Highway 17.

"The pilot said he had engine trouble and needed to land," Schaafsma tells us.

"He used the new highway as his runway. He said he was fine and had no injuries."
