Environment Canada has issued the following snowsquall warning for Searchmont, Montreal River Harbour, Batchawana Bay, Agawa, and Lake Superior Park.

The Environment Canada radar image is taken at 9:30 p.m.

************************* Snowsqualls tonight.

This is a warning that snowsqualls are imminent or occurring in these regions.

Westerly snowsqualls off Lake Superior will continue tonight.

The squalls are expected to drift north into the Wawa area late this afternoon before retreating south overnight.

These snowsqualls are accompanied by strong westerly winds gusting to 60 km/h resulting in blowing snow and local whiteout conditions.

Local snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres per 12 hours are expected in the strongest snowsqualls.

The Wawa area can expect to see lesser amounts, locally up to 10 centimetres, as the worst of the squalls should remain to the south.

Motorists should take extreme caution as dangerous winter driving conditions from whiteouts caused by blowing snow and bursts of heavy snow are possible.

The snowsqualls are expected to begin to weaken by Tuesday morning as the winds diminish.
