********************** Serious injury accident on Highway 17 East
Sault Ste Marie Detachment OPP is investigating a serious two-vehicle injury accident that occurred at 5:50 a.m. this morning just east of the Root River Bridge on Highway #17.
Preliminary investigation reveals that an eastbound blue Plymouth Acclaim lost control on slippery roads and collided head-on with a westbound white Ford pickup.
The collision occurred in the westbound lane.
A third vehicle following the eastbound car avoided the accident by driving onto the snow bank.
The operator of the truck and the two people in the car were taken to hospital suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Highway 17 is expected re-open by 9:30 a.m.
No charges are anticipated in this accident.
Police attribute the wearing of seat belts by all people in this collision for avoiding more serious and possible fatal injuries.
