************************* DETROIT - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers at the Ambassador Bridge discovered 2.48 kilograms of ecstasy tapped to the legs of a man attempting to make entry into the U.S. on Saturday, April 23, 2010.

The man, David Nimat, a 45-year-old male United States citizen who lives in Sterling Heights, was driving a Michigan-plated Honda Accord as he was entering the United States on Saturday, April 23, 2010, around 11:15 p.m.

Nimat told the CBP officers at the primary booth that he was returning home from the Windsor Casino.

He told the officer that he had nothing to declare and that he was carrying about $25 US.

The officer referred Nimat for further inspection and escorted him to the CBP secondary inspection area.

During the secondary inspection an officer performed a patdown of Nimat and felt an unusual bulge on the back of Nimat’s leg.

Nimat told the officer that he was carrying pills and as officers continued the inspection, they found that Nimat had several packages taped to both legs.

When the packages were removed from his legs, they were found to contain different colored pills.

A field test of the pills identified that they were ecstasy.

A total of 2.4 kilograms, approximately 9,022 pills, were discovered.

Nimat was turned over to Special Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for federal prosecution.

“Customs and Border Protection officers work diligently to stop all threats at the border,” stated Acting Port Director Tinesha Cherry. “This time it was ecstasy and the officers used their training and instincts to find it and prevent it from getting into our communities.”
