75 local drivers charged in regards to tinted windows

Yesterday officers with the Sault Ste Marie Police Traffic Unit and the OPP Highway Safety Division conducted a targeted enforcement initiative with regards to motor vehicles with excessive tint on the driver and passenger windows. 

There has been a recent increase in the number of complaints with regards to level of tint in motor vehicles. 

The Highway Traffic Act of Ontario states as follows:

“Colour coating obscuring interior

(3)  No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the windshield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver’s seat has been coated with any coloured spray or other coloured or reflective material that substantially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when viewed from outside the motor vehicle. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 73 (3).”. 

As a result of this initiative 75 drivers were charged with regards to the tint on these windows. 

Motorists who are purchasing tint products for these side windows should ensure that the interior and the vehicle is not substantially obscured regardless of the light conditions, whether day or night.
