On Feb. 10 at 11:20 p.m., the Sault Ste. Marie Police received a call regarding a fire in the 0-100 block of Hudson Street.

Patrol officers, detectives as well as Forensic Identification Unit officers remain on scene awaiting the arrival of the Ontario Fire Marshalls Office in order to investigate the cause of the fire in conjunction with the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services.

As a result of this fire one person, a 60-year-old male, was transported to hospital with associated injuries and later succumbed to those injuries at the hospital. The cause of death and the source of the fire have not yet been determined and the investigation is continuing.

Police ask that the public use alternate transportation routes as roadways in the area remain closed at this time. Further updates will be released as they become available.
