$58,000 to upgrade and repair local community agencies

Ontario is investing $58,000 for repairs and renovations at two non-profit agencies as part of its Partner Facility Renewal Program, announced David Orazietti MPP today.

“Our government is committed to ensuring the well-being of Ontario’s youth, many of whom rely on the services that these agencies provide them and their families,” said Orazietti. “This investment builds on the progress our government has made in supporting much needed infrastructure at important social services organizations.”

This investment includes funding for:

$30,000 Algoma Family Services to repair and install holding tank/reservoir for flood prevention
$28,000 Children’s Aid Society of Algoma to replace 44 windows at sites

Through the annual Partner Facility Renewal program, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services is investing $15 million for upgrades and repairs at more than 140 community agencies across Ontario.

These investments help children’s treatment centres, children’s aid societies and youth centres better serve Ontario’s children, youth and families.

“Algoma Family Services is very pleased and thankful to Mr. Orazietti and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services for the funding being provided through the Partner Facility Renewal program,” said Sandie Leith, Director of Service, Algoma Family Services. “With recent heavy rains causing serious flooding problems, this funding will allow us to make necessary repairs to the main building to ensure there are no disruption in services and no future damage to the building’s contents as a result of flooding.”

“The Children’s Aid Society of Algoma welcomes the announcement of funding from the MCYS Partner Facility Renewal Program Fund,” said Kim Streich-Poser, Executive Director Children’s Aid Society of Algoma. “This allows us to use our core funding to fulfill our mandate and mission: ‘The Children’s Aid Society of Algoma is committed to protecting children and promoting their well-being by working collaboratively with children, families, and communities through service excellence.’ “

Supporting community agencies that help those most in need is part of the government’s economic plan to build Ontario up and deliver on its number-one priority to grow the economy and create jobs.

The four-part plan includes investing in talent and skills, including helping more people get and create the jobs of the future by expanding access to high-quality college and university education.

The plan is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in Ontario’s history and investing in a low-carbon economy driven by innovative, high-growth, export-oriented businesses. The plan is also helping working Ontarians achieve a more secure retirement.

Approved projects receiving funding include: upgrading accessible washrooms, replacing windows, repairing roofs, replacing furnaces, expanding program space and installing alarms for carbon monoxide and fire.
