$50 million lottery ticket sold in Ontario

************************* Winning ticket bought in Toronto area TORONTO - (January 1) - The New Year is starting off with a bang for Ontario lottery players. The single winning ticket to last night's $50 million Lotto Max jackpot, which is the largest single ticket jackpot win in Ontario lottery history, was purchased in the Toronto area.

"This is the most exciting thing that has happened for Ontario lottery players since we launched Lotto Max in September 2009. We have all been waiting for this day, to be able to hand someone a cheque for $50 million," said Wendy Montgomery, vice president of lottery marketing and sales at OLG. In previous draws, the $50 million jackpot has been won in other regions across Canada, but this is the first time there has been a single, winning ticket for the jackpot in Ontario.

In addition to the jackpot, Ontario players are holding winning tickets for other major prizes including three $1 million Maxmillions and three tickets that will split a Maxmillions prize with another ticket.

The winning tickets were purchased in London, the GTA, Milton and Sudbury.

The winning ticket for the second prize of $1,060,961 was purchased in the Newmarket area.

Maxmillions are added to the game when the jackpot reaches an estimated $50 million.

Maxmillions prizes are drawn separately from the Lotto Max jackpot draw, which means that a Lotto Max ticket not only gives players a chance at $50 million but also the chance to win any of the $1 million Maxmillions draws on the same date.

Since its launch in September 2009, Ontario Lotto Max players have won more than $365.6 million in prizes, including five jackpot wins and 82 winning Maxmillions tickets from all across the province.

NOTE: For players claiming lottery prizes this week, the OLG Toronto Prize Centre is closed on Monday, January 3 for the holidays. The office will reopen Tuesday, January 4 during its usual business hours.
