NEWS RELEASE - SAULT MP CARMEN PROVENZANO ************************ Provenzano announces that HRSD will subsidize 221 local student summer jobs
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ontario (May 5, 2004) - Carmen Provenzano, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, is pleased to announce that HRSD will subsidize the costs of 221 local student summer jobs under the Federal Summer Career Placement program.
According to Provenzano, approximately Four Hundred and Twenty Six Thousand Dollars ($426,000) has been set aside to cover the costs of this summer employment initiative in Sault Ste. Marie.
Also, according to Mr. Provenzano, this program benefits local employers, local students, as well as the Sault's economy.
"This program results in a significant infusion of money into our community," says Provenzano.
"There is no question without this program many local students simply could not find summer employment.
Our young people need the opportunity to make money during summer break, especially to offset the costs of post secondary education," he added.
Provenzano says this program really works.
He singles out for special recognition the large group of Sault Ste. Marie public and private businesses, which enthusiastically support this federal employment initiative.
"Without the buy-in of so many Sault employers, this program, simply could not work," states Provenzano.
