19 wildfires currently burn in the region

Three new fires have been confirmed in the Northeast Region as of 13:30 today.

Parry Sound 19, northwest of Stanhope is currently 0.2 hectares in size and not under control.

North Bay 45, a 0.1 hectare fire is now out.

Algonquin Park 7 is 0.5 hectare fire currently not under control.

No problems are anticipated.

By days-end yesterday, six new fires were confirmed in the region.

Air attack and Helitak responded to Algonquin Park 6 in the Round Lake area.

The fire was 0.1 hectares and is now out.

Chapleau 26, North of Leonard Lake was 0.3 hectares in size.

The fire was responded to by Helitak, and is now out.

Pembroke 14, a 0.5 hectare fire was actioned yesterday by the Bird Dog as well as two Twin Otters and two ground crews.  

The fire is currently being held.

Hearst 14, a 20 hectare fire was worked on until dark last night by air attack.

Three ground crews, as well as air attack provided suppression on the fire today and efforts continue.

The fire is currently listed as not under control.

Timmins 33, a 3.8 hectare fire south of Felix was actioned by air attack and Helitak yesterday.

The fire, burning in an active logging operation, is currently under investigation.

Suppression efforts on the fire yesterday came in the form of the Bird Dog as well as 2 CL-415 waterbombing aircraft out of Timmins, and one CL-415 out of Sudbury.

Helitak also responded to the fire. Four ground crews currently remain committed to the fire which is listed as not under control at this time.

Bancroft 15 was a 0.1 hectare fire south of Bon Echo Provincial Park.

The fire is now out.

As the hazard is high across the region, the public is reminded to take extreme care and caution in all outdoor activities.

Make sure you have adequate resources when considering the use of a campfire, and ensure your campfire is completely extinguished before leaving.

Many municipalities in the region have imposed fire bans. It is important to check with your local municipality before burning to ensure there are no fire bans in place.

There are currently 19 fires in the Northeast Region, burning 48,113.9 hectares.

To date, there have been 341 fires in the Northeast Region, having burnt 49,666 hectares.
