**************************** Huron Shores fire ban
Due to the unusually high fire risk caused by dangerously dry conditions, the Municipality of Huron Shores bans all outdoor burning of any kind until further notice.
**************************** St. Joseph Island fire ban
A no open fires burning advisory has been issued for the Township of St. Joseph on St. Joseph Island.
Township of St. Joseph Fire Chief Cory Furlong advises that the current dry weather conditions and earlier than normal snow melt has created a serious threat for wildfires.
Any changes to the status of this advisory will be issued as conditions warrant.
**************************** Sault Ste. Marie fire ban
Effective immediately the Sault Ste. Marie fire services has imposed a ban on all open-air burning within the municipality of Sault Ste. Marie until further notice.
Those residents with current permits are advised not to burn.
**************************** MacDonald Avenue fire
Fire services responded to a fire in the 200 block of MacDonald Avenue in the early morning hours of March 24.
Upon arrival, Sault Ste. Marie firefighters were involved in a rescue operation in which a tenant of the residence was safely evacuated out of a second-storey window.
The occupant of the dwelling had become trapped on the upper level due to smoke and heated gases.
Fire prevention officers conducted an investigation and determined the cause to be electrical in nature.
Further investigation revealed the lack of adequate working smoke alarms.
As a result, the owner of the property was charged under the Ontario Fire Code for failure to supply working smoke alarms on all storeys of the residence.
Fire Services wants to remind the community that working smoke alarms on all storeys of the residence are required by the Ontario Fire Code and associated fire protection and prevention act.
