What has two humps on its back, a head like a horse, and lives in Lake Superior?

Darned if we know, but there's been a lot of Internet chatter in recent days about a 30-year-old report of a bewhiskered Loch Ness monster-type creature at the lake's west end.

Such sightings aren’t new.

Stories of a Great Lakes creature dubbed “Pressie” have circulated for more than a century.

Each of the big lakes has its own history of supposed sightings.

Tales of serpents in Lake Michigan originated in the 1880s.

Reports of “South Lake Bessie” encounters in Lake Erie go back even farther.

World-wide interest in lake monsters has been recently rekindled because of an Internet posting - including a "sighting" photo - by a Wisconsin man.

Randy Braun claims to have observed something unusual in Lake Superior 30 years ago.

According to an article posted today by The Capital Times newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin, Braun had the experience in 1977 while visiting Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the western Upper Peninsula.

Braun describes being within 20 yards of a living thing with two humps, bright eyes and other features.

The full article is available here.
