VIDEO: The Goulais River melt looks surreal

The river melt is an annual occurrence in Goulais.

Residents watch as the chunks of ice break up and begin to flow toward the mouth of the river (or as the French would say, the anse de la peche). 

Water flows from the Algoma highlands into Lake Superior, draining an area of approximately 2,000 square kilometres. That force is evident most at this time. 

The spectacle is closely monitored as 'jams' can occur and when the flow of water is interrupted by a jam the area floods. 

Luckily the mass seems to be moving freely which brings a collective sigh of relief for those close to the river.
