Firefighters responded to a chimney fire in the 1000-block of Queen Street East shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday

Firefighters responded to a chimney fire in the 1000-block of Queen Street East shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The fire was extinguished shortly afterward by firefighters on the ladder of an aerial truck.

"Upon arrival, fire crews were directed to the exterior of the dwelling where sparks were visible from the chimney," says a news release issued by Sault Fire Services on Monday Nov. 27. "Fire crews were able to contain the fire."

Damage was minimal and nobody was injured.

"Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services would like to remind all citizens to have their chimney and fireplaces inspected and cleaned annually by a licensed contractor," the news release says.
