VIDEO: Some fun experiments make frigid temperatures fun

Wind chill values between minus 35 and minus 40 C swept over the area this morning. In fact it's been quite cold the last few days and it made for a perfect opportunity to experiment with water vapour.

"We added some red food colouring to boiling water to do the freezing weather thing. Thought the video turned out cool and that we would share if you were interested in maybe posting to show how cold the weekend was in the Sault," said a SooToday reader named Miranda. 

Cold air is very dense, which makes its capacity to hold water vapour molecules very low. Therefore, when hot water is thrown into extremely cold air, the smallest droplets are able to cool and evaporate in a dramatic cloud before they reach the ground.

We can't be sure the next time someone will be able to pull off this experiment this year.

Believe it or not, temperatures on Wednesday may go above freezing.
