Batchewana First Nation’s third annual Mid-Winter Celebration

This coming weekend Batchewana First Nation (BFN) will be celebrating the third annual Mid-Winter Celebration.

This event brings our communities; Rankin, Goulais, Obadjiwan and Bawating together for a weekend of family activities and community empowerment.

We would like to extend the invite to our friends, families and community members to join us February 18 - February 20 for a fun filled weekend!

The weekend will kick off with a broomball tournament held from 5 to 9 p.m. at the outdoor rink in Rankin on Friday, February 18.

Tournament spectators can keep warm sipping Tim Horton’s hot chocolate and coffee while sitting by our community bon fire.

Elders can avoid the cold and sharpen their cribbage skills at the social night held in the Elders Complex from 6 to 8 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to watch the firework show with us, after the broomball tournament commences.

Continuing on Saturday February 19 the Batchewana First Nation elders fundraising committee will be hosting a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Elders Complex.

BFN elders will open the day with a prayer followed by song from our very own Grammy nominated drum group, Bear Creek at 11 a.m. outdoors at the Teen
Centre.

Saturday’s all-day events beginning at 12 p.m. will include face painting, snow man building contest, tea boiling contest, buck saw contest, chili and fry bit cook off,
sleigh rides, obstacle course challenge, snow ball throw competition, helicopter rides and much more!

There will be hot food available for purchase throughout the day with proceeds going towards the Little NHL.

On Sunday, February 20 the dock in Goulais Bay will play host to this years Fish Derby!

Join us from noon to 5 p.m. at the Goulais Mission Annex for a day of fishing, and prize giveaways.

Transportation for Rankin residents will be available but limited.

The annual Mid-Winter Celebration has become integral to our First Nation as a driving force that promotes community empowerment and family unity.

The weekend events are free of charge to ensure that all community members are able to participate.

We would like to thank the following organizations for making this possible by generously providing financial contributions; Brookfield Renewable Power, Genivar, Bow Lake Wind Farm, Blue Heron Industrial Park, and Union Gas.

Everyone is welcome to join us for the celebration, and we look forward to a fun and safe weekend!
