You may have noticed some odd behaviour on your television last night as you snuggled in to watch your favourite late-night talk show.

Due to a breakdown in last-minute negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, writers headed for the picket lines resulting in both The Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno airing re-runs Monday night.

Other late-night programming, including The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Cobert Report, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly is soon to follow since the majority of the material is drawn from current news and world issues.

This all stems from Writers' concerns that they are not receiving their fair share of Network and Studio revenue when their material is made available for on-line distribution.

It is unclear how long the strike will last.

Thankfully, prime-time television and movie production will not be immediately affected.

Hunker down and prepare for some long and boring winter nights.

Unless you don't mind re-runs.
