NEWS RELEASE
180 PROJECTS
**************************
180 Projects and Algoma University Visual Art are pleased to present a film screening / live cinema performance and 16mm colour filmmaking workshop by Marek Pluciennik.

Marek Pluciennik is an independent filmmaker and cinema artist based in Helsinki. The main concern of his work is the materiality of the film medium. Aside from films, his work is site-specific, ephemeral projection performances and installations. His films have been screened among others in Madatac07 Festival in Madrid, Images Film Festival in Toronto, and the International Short Film Festival in Tampere. His performances have been shown in contemporary art galleries and festivals in Latvia, Finland, Poland, Sweden, Hungary and Italy.

This hands-on workshop will teach participants how to shoot and cross-process 16 mm colour motion picture film stock in C41 and E6 chemistry, using Russian hand processing tanks and the “bucket” method. This process transforms the colour negative film into a positive meaning we will be able to project and watch the film you make during the class. This experimental method of developing imparts unique colour tones and developing artifacts upon the film.

Participants will shoot 16 mm colour stocks and then learn to cross-process their own film. We will then view the footage that you processed, look at other films that were hand processed and further discuss the aesthetics and techniques of hand processing. This workshop includes all film, darkroom chemistry and supplies, a Bolex, 16 mm pinhole camera, and Krasnogorsk camera will be available for participants to use.

Workshop participants are encouraged to register early as spaces are limited. The fee for the workshop is $50, some subsidies are available. Please let us know if you need assistance with the workshop fee.
