Alberta House opens 2016 season with exhibit by Ellen Van Laar

Reception Sunday, February 7 from 2 to 4 p.m.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - Stories of Place, Ellen Van Laar’s exhibition of large murals and 5 x 7 inch miniatures fills both Alberta House galleries during February with splashes of vivid colour.

The murals are representations of those major emotions and events - archetypes - that are common to life and thus to all art forms.

The miniature paintings depict the Algoma region along Lake Superior.

Both series represent place, specific in the case of Algoma, metaphorical in the case of one’s position in one’s life journey.

Ellen will discuss these concepts in a workshop series on Tuesdays, February 9, 16 and 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Alberta House.

All are cordially invited to meet Ellen at a reception in Alberta House on Sunday, February 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. where they may view the exhibit and enjoy refreshments and acoustic music.

The reception is also the last chance to sign up for Ellen’s workshop.

The exhibit will be in place through February 27.

Regular hours in Alberta House are Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission is free of charge.

The three story Victorian structure is located at 217 Ferris Street (in Sault Michigan), just off Portage south of the Soo Locks Visitors Center.

For more information about the exhibit or the workshop, download the February Alberta House News from the Sault Area Arts Council website, e-mail: [email protected], or call 906-635-1312 or 906-437-5463.
