In a short news post on the Nine Inch Nails website, Trent Reznor yesterday announced that his contract with Interscope has been fulfilled and he is now a free agent.

"I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate," he stated. "Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008. Exciting times, indeed."

Recently during a concert in Sydney, Australia, Reznor criticized record companies for unfair pricing practices.

It turns out the latest NIN record, Year Zero, is priced $15 higher in Australia than other parts of the world, and Reznor is not pleased.

"Has anyone seen the price come down?" Reznor asked audience members, to which they answered no.

"OK, well, you know what that means: steal it. Steal away. Steal and steal and steal some more," he urged. "Give it to all your friends and keep on stealing. Because one way or another these mother f**kers will get it through their head that they're ripping people off and that's not right."

Video of Reznor's rant has been made available on YouTube and may be viewed here. (Warning: course language)

Year Zero is available in its entirety as a multi-track Garageband/Logic download or a Torrent on the Nine Inch Nails website.
