Fringe North begins Thursday, Aug. 10, yet an alarming number in the Sault Ste. Marie area still have no idea how to fringe.

No worries. Fringing requires no previous experience.

Fringe North International Theatre Festival organizers have prepared this handy guide to help you get the most out of 11 days of theatre, street performances, music, art, kids stuff and just plain fun.

Start at the Bondar Pavilion on the waterfront, the main festival grounds and centre of all things fringe.

You’ll find buskers, music, free activities for those young in age or spirit, refreshments (speaking of spirit) and the Fringe North information booth, with programs and artist and show information.

And keep up with what’s happening on our website, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Then, or perhaps first, buy your button and get Fringe with Benefits. With that $3 button you support the festival, get into theatre venues and receive bonuses and perks from participating businesses.

Buttons are available at Jade Wellness, Madonna Optical, Shabby Motley Handcraft, Pharmasave West End, Mane Street Salon and the Fringe office at the Downtown Association, 496 Queen St. E.

Get your show tickets — prices are capped at $12 but most are less than that — through fringenorth.ca, or, for cash only, at 496 Queen St. E. or at the door. Buy in advance and you won’t miss out.

Then take a leap. Fringe North offers new adventures in theatre and street performances not often seen in the Sault, along with plenty of art, music and kids’ activities.

With ticket prices ranging from $5 to $12, it’s a super low-risk adventure and a chance to discover hidden festival gems.

Finally, tell the world. Fringe audience get to be theatre critics online after every show or event.
