Did you play a band instrument in high school, and were proud to be a band geek?

A new Concert Band is being formed in Sault Ste. Marie, directed by Ed Dickey. This large ensemble, made up of wind and percussion players, will perform a wide variety selections from pop, jazz, classics as well as original music.

The inaugural meeting will take place at Superior Heights Collegiate on Wednesday May 9 from 7 - 9 p.m. The ensemble will have five rehearsals before performing at the annual Musicfest (Bratwurst, Beer and Beethoven) on June 10, at the Roberta Bondar Pavilion.

If this introduction is a success, it will be expand into a full band program in September, with several concerts.

Ed Dickey is a graduate of the renowned Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he specialized in Music Education, with post-graduate study at the University of Michigan in Instrumental Conducting. A flautist, Ed earned an ARCT diploma in performance from the Royal Conservatory in Toronto.

Ed taught at Elliot Lake Secondary School for many years, where his bands were recognized for their superior calibre. He presently directs the successful New Horizon Band programs at the Algoma Conservatory of Music.
