The not-so-weird Weird Al Yankovic (photos)

He's a wiz on the accordion. His hair is not permed. He has over 600 000 MySpace friends and he maintains the page himself. He's a vegetarian. He has absolutely no interest in hearing your lame idea for a parody song.
He's a wiz on the accordion.

His hair is not permed.

He has over 600 000 MySpace friends and he maintains the page himself.

He's a vegetarian.

He has absolutely no interest in hearing your lame idea for a parody song.

He is Weird Al Yankovic and he dares to be stupid.

The current tour in support of his newest release Straight Outta Lynwood, which recently went Gold, made a stop last night at Kewadin Casino in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

The show included not only tracks from the new album, like Close But No Cigar, White and Nerdy, I'll Sue Ya, Trapped in the Drive-Thru and Canadian Idiot, but also many of his much beloved classics, such as Gump, Eat It, Smells Like Nirvana, Bedrock Anthem, Amish Paradise and of course, Fat.

Yes, he donned the infamous "fat suit".

I counted about 15 wardrobe changes during the course of the evening, all facilitated by the many video montages which included AlTV mock interviews with Madonna, Keith Richards, Celine Dion, Eminem, Cher, Paul McCartney and umpteen others.

An interesting realization hit me as I watched Weird Al perform.

He's really not that weird.

A gifted singer/songwriter with boundless charisma and a keen, sometimes profound comedy sense, yes.

A wildly funny entertainer who could successfully battle most rappers in the business with the smarts to surround himself with some of the most talented musicians I have ever seen live, yes.

But weird?

Not overly, and that's OK.

You can ask Al a question, download You're Pitiful, the parody of James Blunt's You're Beautiful that the record label would not allow Al to include on Straight Outta Lynwood, and watch all his latest videos on the official Weird Al website.
