From June 9th to July 9th, the AGA is hosting "Threadworks 2004", a juried exhibition of needle arts.

Of the hundreds of entries submitted, 50 were chosen to travel to 16 galleries and museums throughout Ontario. Each show has a theme which is interpreted by textile artists in unique and innovative ways. The only limitation is that entries much be done with a threaded needle.

The theme for Threadworks 2004 is The Garden Party. Items display intricate beading and small boxes, wearable art and wall hangings, created using a variety of techniques both traditional and experimental.

Two Sault Ste. Marie needlewomen were chosen for this exhibition; Fay Loyer with an intricately smocked child's dress and Wendy McKenney showing an embroidered, appliqued and woven wall hanging.

This show is a special project of Ontario Network of Needleworkers and is a collaboration with Wellington County Museum & Archives and Guelph Arts Council and is supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. It takes close to three years to tour the province.

This exhibition continues to July 9th.
