AlgomaTrad is hosting a fun and friendly virtual trivia fundraiser this Saturday.

This trivia night will be held via Zoom starting at 7 p.m., with the goal of raising money for the AlgomaTrad Centre Building Fund. AlgomaTrad, a not-for-profit arts organization, is currently building the AlgomaTrad Centre, a sustainable heritage arts centre that will feature music, dance, heritage craft programming and events on St. Joseph Island.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the fundraiser will take place virtually and teams will be together in break-out rooms on Zoom to discuss answers. The teams will then join the other teams between rounds to find out the answers while listening to some musical performances. Individuals or teams of eight can sign up for the trivia night online

This fundraiser will also include a “Community Challenge”, which means that the winning team’s entry fee will be donated to a charity of their choosing.

In a news release issued by AlgomaTrad, the organization states that other than the Community Challenge, there will be no prizes except for bragging rights and the winning team’s name wood-burned on an AlgomaTrad Trivia trophy.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening. Cost to join the fundraiser is $25 per person, which includes 10 mulligans per team.

AlgomaTrad is an organization dedicated to the sharing of traditional music, dance, art and heritage craft. Their priorities are inclusivity and building multi-generational community. AlgomaTrad also hosts dances, concerts, workshops throughout the year, a week-long family-friendly traditional music, dance and arts camp each August, and educational programs in local schools.

With the province now under a four-week lockdown to help stop the spread of COVID-19, Saultites are encouraged now more than ever to continue following public health guidelines and stay home as much as possible.

So each week, SooToday will share some of the virtual events taking place to help you make the most of these unprecedented times and have fun safely at home.

If you or someone you know is planning a local virtual event (concert, class, celebration, etc.), send the details to [email protected].
