Teen Video Contest wants to see your shorts!

The Sault Ste. Marie Public Library is now accepting submissions of documentary or mockumentary shorts from budding filmmakers aged 13 to 19 years

This year's challenge is to create a two- to five-minute documentary or mockumentary on a topic of your choice. Bring your completed video to the Centennial Library Information Desk on a USB stick by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018. The winner will be announced by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018.

Individuals and teams are encouraged to apply. Teams may consist of a maximum of three participants. All contestants must be 13 to 19 years of age to enter. This year the winner will take home a $150 Best Buy gift card!

Digital Creator North is hosting two special Shaw TV Workshops in the Digital Creator North studio at the Sault Ste. Marie Centennial Library this March.

Workshop 1: Video Editing - Wednesday, March 7 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Workshop 2: Advanced Camera Techniques - Saturday, March 17 from 12-3 p.m.

2018 Teen Video Contest Information:

Eligibility

All contestants must be 13-19 years of age to enter.

Terms and conditions

All submitted videos may be used by the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library for marketing purposes. Entries may be published online, including but not limited to the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

All participants must sign a photo/ video release form. Anyone under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian’s signature.

Video criteria for acceptance

Videos must model the “documentary or mockumentary” film style. Videos must be between two to five minutes in length. Shorter or long longer videos will be eliminated. Any video with offensive language will be eliminated. Individuals or teams, of no more than three persons, are asked to submit one video for contest. Videos are to be brought to the Centennial Library Information Desk by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018.

Videos are to be submitted via USB. All submissions must include one USB, one signed photo/video release form from all applicants and one registration form.

Judging criteria

  • Creativity
  • Models the film genre of documentary or mockumentary
  • Film Work (editing and sound)
  • Content

Winners and prizes

SSMPL and DGTL Creator North teen programming staff will review all video submissions.

The winner will be announced by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018. The grand prize for the winning video submission will be a Best Buy gift card valued at $150. *If the winning video is created by a team of two or three, the grand prize of $150 is to be divided equally among team members.
