SAULT STE. MARIE, MI - Bayliss Public Library will host its next Superior Poetry Café on Thursday, June 12, at 7 p.m.

The featured writer will be Murray Lamothe, of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

After serving with the Police Service for 33 years, Murray attended Algoma/Laurentian University receiving his B.A. degree in Political Science in 2006.

The experience fostered an interest in creative writing.

The following summer, Murray attended the Halliburton School of Fine Arts creative writing program in Ontario.

Encouraged to push the limits of his writing, he returned to the Sault to enroll in studies under Dr. Alana Bondar.

In 2013 Murray temporarily set aside his short story and poetry writing to fulfill a 20-year dream.

His soon-to-be-released true crime story, Lanyard, tells about his final homicide investigation into the long-forgotten murder of a high school teen on October 18, 1945 in Sault, Ontario.

At the Poetry Café, Murray will share his poetry, along with excerpts from his Lanyard book and from his Johnny Bakker file about his 108-year-old fictional character, who is inspired by the last Canadian survivor of World War I.

There will be an open mic after his reading, where the public may read from their own work, tell stories, or play music.

Bayliss Public Library, a Superior District Library, is located at 541 Library Drive in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
