Studio Dance Arts gets RAD workshops October 22 and 23

SAULT STE. MARIE - Studio Dance Arts is getting ready to host RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) ballet workshops with guest RAD Society member, Barbara Chonin on October 22 and 23.

These workshop intensives help prepare the students who will be taking the prestigious RAD ballet exams later this year.

Studio Dance Arts is Sault Ste. Marie's first registered school able to offer the globally recognized and respected RAD Ballet Exams.

RAD is one of the most commonly used classical ballet syllabi in professional academies and college dance programs throughout Canada and the US. 

The RAD Society is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organizations in the world with over 15,500 members in more than 82 countries. 

This progressive examination syllabus is taught to over a quarter of a million students worldwide with participation in the exam system only possible through officially RAD certified schools and teachers.

Jessica attended the Quinte Ballet School of Canada’s full time program at the age of 10 and is a graduate of their Professional Division and Teachers Training Program.

She holds her Advanced Certificate with the prestigious Cecchetti Society of Canada and is the first teacher of classical ballet in Sault Ste. Marie to hold the Registered Teachers Status with the Royal Academy of Dance.

Throughout her eight years with the QBS, Jessica has had the opportunity to perform in ballets such as Sleeping Beauty, Les Sylphides, La Bayadere, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Paquita.

As the ballet teacher and choreographer for SDA’s competitive team, Jessica has produced numerous overall winning soloists, duo/ trios, groups, and productions, focusing on strong ballet technique and placement.

Studio Dance Arts is pleased to have Barbara Chonin visit the Sault studio to lead intensive workshops to prepare RAD examination candidates for the tough exams.

Barbara has been the senior ballet teacher at the Joanne Chapman School of Dance in Brampton, Ontario since September 2002. 

Prior to that Barbara was the director of her own Ballet School in Johannesburg, South Africa for over 25 years.

She has had extensive experience in the field of classical ballet as an adjudicator at dance competitions, sitting on Scholarship Boards for the Royal Academy of Dance, as an examiner for the National Society of Dance Teachers Southern Africa, and as a guest teacher at seminars.

Barbara has in depth experience in preparing students for Royal Academy of Dance Examinations from Primary to Solo Seal.

She has won many choreographic awards and many of her students are dancing in professional companies around the world or teaching.

Barbara’s passion for dance and her understanding heart hopes to inspire her students to excel at their best level, while gaining self confidence and appreciation for the art of dance.

The workshops will take place at Studio Dance Arts, 612 Queen Street East in Sault Ste. Marie on October 22 and October 23.
