Steel Magnolias will be on the menu of a dinner theatre production by Algoma Repertory Theatre (ART).
Many people know the 1989 movie starring Sally Field, Julia Robertson, and Dolly Parton, however fewer are aware the film was based on this stage play.
“The story follows six small-town Louisiana women who gather regularly at a local beauty salon to gossip about the latest goings-on through life’s trials and achievements,” the theatre described in a news release.
“With plenty of laughter and heart, the plot covers events over a three-year period and how the women cope with the challenges in their marriages, their jobs, and their health all while remaining friends. Through love and loss this play will celebrate the healing nature of friendship.”
In this production, Sandra Forsell, Christina Johnson, Jaime Miller, Kaila O’Callahan, Trish Rainone and Kyla Robinson will depict the witty, warm, and uplifting story of friendship and the indomitable strength of women.
“Steel Magnolias” runs from February 7 to 10 at the Quattro Hotel and Conference Centre.
The performance will be preceeded by a dinner including fresh bread, mixed green salad, penne and homemade red sauce, roasted chicken, Italian seasoned potatoes, green beans and an apple blossom dessert along with coffee and tea.
