War Amps award-winning documentary "Annae's Journey" to air Aug 21 on Discovery Civilization

OTTAWA - Annae's Journey, a War Amps documentary that recently won a top U.S. film festival award, will have its first national airing on Monday August 21 at 7 p.m. EST on the Discovery Civilization Channel.

It tells the story of Annae Jones, 27, of Alberta, who sees herself as ordinary, but how she lives her life is very original.

Born missing both arms, she invents her own way of doing things.

Produced by War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton, the documentary follows Annae through her daily routine as she talks about her personal road to independence.

With candour and humour, she describes the obstacles along the way and how adopting The War Amps Winner's Circle philosophy of overcoming challenges helped her.

It covers her early years, adapting to leaving home to attend post-secondary school, successfully entering the workforce and now raising a family of her own.

Annae's parents also describe the unique set of parenting skills they developed to ensure their daughter could make her own way in life.

Like Annae, they credit The War Amps with helping her to develop self-confidence through the Association's Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program, particularly at its annual seminars where she met fellow Champs to share concerns and advice.

The documentary recently won the Special Jury Award, the top prize in its category, at the 2006 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival in Houston, Texas.
